ISLA & JAKE

“Our dance floor was alive the whole night and is some of our best memories of the day!”

Isla & Jake tied the knot in sophisticated Black Tie style at Lamont’s Bishops House, one of my fav inner-city venues.

Our initial meeting was filled with laughter and excitement. Jake described his music taste as liking everything “but mostly sad hiphop/rap and heavy music not suitable for weddings”.

Intrigued by this I snuck a peak at Jake’s Spotify account and scrolled through his ‘Top Songs of 2023’. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw my brothers band Break Even had made the list.

(Break Even was a hardcore band formed back in 2005! My brother Mark was the lead singer and I have many of fond memories of going to his shows at HQ in Leederville. My dad and I would go to his shows and hideaway in the corner as wild mosh pits were formed and there was my brother, Mark known as Mawds, front of stage, pouring his heart and soul into their songs. The band is no longer together but I love knowing how much their music still means to people so many years on ♥️)

After a bit of reminiscing, we discussed the fact that Isla and Jake were keen on keeping their party upbeat and lively.

Isa’s described her music taste as “Drake… lot’s of Drake” along with Chris Brown, Travis Scott, Kanye West and the beautiful Lana Del Ray.

It was evident that their dance floor would be something special and anything but traditional.

Managing different music tastes and getting the right balance between catering to the couple's preferences and ensuring all guests, including older ones, feel included can be tricky at times. However, I always prioritise tailoring the soundtrack to the bride and groom's tastes.

For Isla and Jake, I was soon to find out they would bring the best energy to their dance floor and that no one would feel excluded.

On the day of the wedding, the ceremony took place in the grassed area at Lamont’s. The sun was shining down upon Isla and Jake as they exchanged vows which was so beautifully captured by their photographer Tessa Kit.

While guests indulged in cocktail hour and canapés, Isla and Jake slipped away to share a first look of their reception area set in the Rose Garden.

This intimate moment allowed them to see their dream unfold before their guests settled into their seats. The help of this dream was brought together by their Wedding Coordinator, Emma from A Rose Touch - Wedding Planning, Styling & Coordination. With Emma's expertise and attention to detail, every aspect of their special day came together seamlessly.

Following cocktail hour reception kicked off and guests made their way to their seats. Isla and Jake made a rockstar entrance to Miguel's "Sure Thing," setting the perfect vibe for the evening ahead.

All of sudden a huge dark cloud appeared out of nowhere and a few drops of rain began to fall 😬 With staff reassurance we kept formalities going hoping that the rain would pass. I was quietly anxious of my gear and the dance floor but once my equipment was fully covered I felt at ease.

Thankfully, it turned out to be just a brief sprinkle, and we managed to handle it with some last-minute umbrellas and jackets. It was a minor hiccup in an otherwise beautiful day, and soon enough, the celebration continued under clear skies.

Following a beautiful meal and moving speeches, it was time to let loose and celebrate.

Isla slipped away for a quick dress change, with her new husband by her side.

Their First Dance was announced and they gracefully glided onto the dance floor for to Lana Del Rey's "Video Games." Isla and Jake cherished their first dance, leaving everyone in awe. Their love for each other filled the air, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. All guests were then invited to join in on the special moment.

I transitioned into a few classics for the older crowd before diving into a mix of Drake, Travis Scott, and J.Cole. Isla and Jake were the life of the party and set off the dance floor.

A huge shoutout to their incredibly talented photographer, Tessa Kit, whose dedication to capturing every moment extended to joining the dance floor herself for a boogie. I can't get enough of their wedding gallery - it's like experiencing the magic of their wedding day all over again.

Some memorable highlights of the evening included a couple of my fav pop punk songs "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard and "Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team)" by Taking Back Sunday.

As the night drew to a close, all guests shared in a slow dance moment to 'You're Still the One' by Shania Twain (the Mother of the Groom's favourite artist). The final song was Chris Brown, 'Forever’ symbolising their love and the commitment to what lies ahead.

As cheesy as it sounds, being a wedding DJ, there's no greater happiness than seeing a couple's dreams come to life and realising that you contributed to creating memories that will last forever ♥️

xoxo Katie
