Chloe & Dan
Some weddings just stick with you, and Chloe and Dan’s was definitely one of them. From our initial meeting, I knew their wedding would be something special. Chloe’s bubbly personality paired perfectly with Dan’s cool, calm vibe. They’re one of those couples whose energy instantly makes you smile and who will light up any room they walk into.
Chloe found me on instagram, after seeing a clip from another wedding I DJed at Coast, their chosen wedding venue. She reached out and from our first conversation, we were on the same page. Chloe and Dan described their music taste as “bangaz” – a mix of feel good classics for the oldies, timeless party anthems, and just the right amount of modern hits to keep the dance floor alive all night long. It was clear they wanted their reception to be one big party.
During our catch up, I discovered that one of Dan’s groomsmen, Ray, had been a guest at a previous wedding I DJed—Courtney and Melvin’s - where he was also in the bridal party. It was another unforgettable night (blog linked here). There is always such a small Perth moment when past connections bring familiar faces into new celebrations.
Venues
Although I couldn’t attend the ceremony venue at the stunning WA Shipwrecks Museum, I heard nothing but praise from the guests who arrived at the reception for cocktail hour. While the ceremony took place, I was busy setting up at Coast, a venue I always enjoy returning to. It has a relaxed beach vibe with just the right touch of elegance for a wedding. The Coast team was preparing the room while I organised my DJ equipment, ensuring everything was set to bring Chloe and Dan’s vision to life.
The Dress!
Chloe looked absolutely stunning in her dress – an off the shoulder, long sleeve design with delicate sparkling details. The dress, an Elysian Bridal design, was a second-hand find from a woman in Sydney. With a touch of tailoring, the figure hugging corset beautifully outlined her silhouette and she truly shone throughout the entire day.
A First Dance to Remember
Following their bridal party’s entrance, Chloe and Dan took the floor for their first dance to Nat King Cole’s classic, ‘L-O-V-E’. This wasn’t just any first dance.. the couple had previously taken swing dancing classes together. As soon as I hit play on the music, the room was captivated as they twirled and glided effortlessly across the floor, showcasing not only their skills but also their beautiful connection.
As their first dance ended, we shifted into Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, an upbeat track that everyone got to join in for a dance. It was the perfect way to set the tone for their cocktail style reception.
A Father-Daughter Moment to Shine
Later in the evening, after mingling, some beautiful speeches and the cake cut, it was time to kickstart the dance floor again. Chloe and her dad took center stage for a father-daughter dance to ‘Uptown Funk’ by Bruno Mars.
Chloe’s dad had been nervous about the dance, but here’s the heartwarming part.. it was his idea! He was so determined to get it right that Chloe told me he was waking up in the middle of the night trying to memorise the moves. His dedication paid off and together, they absolutely smashed it. The crowd went wild as they danced in sync, with Chloe’s energy perfectly matched by her dad’s enthusiasm. It was such a sweet and memorable moment that brought smiles and cheers from everyone in the room.
My fav shots captured by Jeremy Tan
The magic of the day was beautifully captured by photographer Jeremy Tan. Every image radiates with so much happiness and love – it’s clear from the smiles on Chloe and Dan’s faces just how smitten they are with one another.
Towards the end of the night Chloe and Dan snuck away for a private dance on the beach, just the two of them. It's not often that a couple gets a chance to step away to enjoy a quiet moment together. From their heartfelt ceremony to this special moment on the beach, Jeremy’s photos perfectly tell the story of their incredible day.
Party Time
The party kept going strong throughout the night, fuelled by the perfect mix of tunes. The playlist was packed with crowd-pleasers. Everything from singalongs to modern hits that kept everyone, young and old, on their feet.
I had heaps of fun mixing a collection of upbeat classics and nostalgic throwbacks. Watching the guests dance and sing along, you could see how much thought the couple had put into deciding on their music.
A Personal Touch
As I reflect on this beautiful day, there’s one small personal detail to share.. little did I know, I was in the very early stages of pregnancy during Chloe and Dan’s wedding. While I felt a little more tired than usual by the end of the night, I had no idea what was to come! Looking back now, it’s incredible to think about how much life was changing, not just for Chloe and Dan, but for me as well.
The Perfect Ending
As the final song played and the venue began to close, Chloe and Dan said their goodbyes before deciding to keep the celebration going with a spontaneous after party on the beach, where they enjoyed some late night whisky with those who were keen to kick on. They even invited me to join, but I was pretty tierd (and pregnant—lol) and needed to get some rest.
Moments like this remind me why I love being part of weddings. Watching people come together to celebrate love and create unforgettable memories is such a privilege I’ll never take for granted.
To Chloe and Dan: thank you for trusting me with your special day. Your energy, love, and fun taste in music made it a night I’ll never forget. Here’s to a lifetime of happiness, laughter, and, of course, bangaz!
xoxo Katie
